报告简介:
Concerns about increasing levels of carbon emissions, global warming and energy security have encouraged governments around the world to pursue alternative, clean energy strategies. Gradual shift from the traditional hydrocarbon-based“oil-refinery”to the sustainable carbohydrate-based“biomass refinery”could be one of the solutions. Traditionally, there are two conversion technology platforms for biomass-based biorefinery, employing either thermochemical processes such as combustion, pyrolysis and gasification or biological processes such as microorganisms and enzymes, known as biochemical platforms. Recently, a novel technological approach (biomass photoreforming) is under development to examine the possibility of direct biomass valorization (biorefining) and sustainable H2 production, by utilizing sunlight as the energy source and water as the complementary substrate. The general objective of my research is utilizing biomass, photo/bio-catalysts, and cell factories to design and fabricate renewable and sustainable bioproducts and systems, via bioinspired routes, for Energy, Environmental, and Biomedical application. In this presentation, I will talk about our recent progress on solar-driven cellulose photoreforming for green energy carriers such as H2 and value-added bioproducts co-production. I will also introduce our strategy to assemble nanocellulose with genetically engineered proteins fused to carbohydrate binding module (CBM) for environmental and biomedical application.
