| 2015年4月14日，来自美国的Prof. Sheldon Shi（University of North Texas）来生物质材料重点实验室交流访问，与实验室各位老师在科技楼820室举行了座谈，并参加了4月15日在科技楼807举办的第二届学术活动周——纳米纤维素研究专场学术报告会，Prof. Sheldon Shi的报告题目是“自然纤维纳米改性处理做功能性材料”。
Dr. Sheldon Shi obtained his Ph.D. degree at Michigan Technological University (MTU) in 1997. After about two-year research experience as a Post-Doctorial Research Associate at both MTU and University of Maine, he joined APA - The Engineered Wood Association in 1999 as a Scientist/Engineer conducting product evaluation and quality assurance of engineered wood based products for building construction. In 2004, he joined the faculty at Mississippi State University (MSU) as an Assistant Professor and received tenure. After seven years of service with MSU, Dr. Shi joined the University of North Texas as an Associate professor with tenure at Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department. He is currently serving as the Chair of the Faculty Council and Committee Member for the Tenure and Promotion Committee for the College of Engineering for the university, Chair for the Tenure and Promotion Committee for the Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department. Dr. Shi has been experienced in the manufacture processes of composite materials using biomass as feedstock, such as wood, plant fibers, soybean, etc. His expertise is on the processing and evaluation of bio-based composites, adhesive and adhesion, and bond durability of the composite materials. Dr. Shi has been serving as PI and Co-PI for Federal projects including DOE, NSF, and USDA. Dr. Shi received Early Career Achievement Award at the College of Forest Resources, MSU, Research Excellent Award at the Computational Manufacturing & Design, MSU, George Marra Award for Excellent in Writing; appointed as an Adjunct Professor at Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China and Guangxi University, Nanning, China; Longjiang Scholar in Heilongjiang province, China; Ph.D. Dissertation Examiner for Deakin University, Australia, and special consultant at the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), Beijing, China. He served as the President of the Society of Wood Science and Technology (SWST) during 2013 - 2014, Participating Member of ASTM International (D07 and D14 subcommittees), Committee Chair of Markwardt Award, Editor Board of “International Journal of Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources and ISBN Thermodynamics; member of Society of Advanced Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE), American Chemical Society (ACS), and APA Standard Committee. He has been invited as a reviewer from more than 40 professional journals, standard organizations and federal funding agencies. Dr. Shi has published over 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals and professional conference proceedings. |
